The son of a political journalist, Dickinson spent his "formative" years in the exciting and turbulent London of the 70s and 80s. He worked both in theatre and music during what he describes as a period characterized by unparalleled creative urgency. He also had contacts in the jewelry industry and always found himself pulled to both the technical and creative sides of the business.
Upon moving to Texas in 1980 Dickinson spent ten years in management positions with Linz Jewelers and with the Bock Jewelry Co. in Dallas. He was subsequently recruited by Tiffany Co., where he served as VP for 15 years.
In 2003 Dickinson answered his technical calling by creating a design, manufacturing, and service center. Dickinson by Design is the fruit of ten years of what he describes as "auditions", baptism by fire, and careful listening.
Magical design may birth a piece the majesty of which belies its humble components".....
Similarly for me the DBD family is the fortuitous coming together of a special group of gifted craftsmen, designers and jewelry specialists the combined efforts of which continue to exceed my high expectations.
Farah Fetneh Dickinson
Having begun her education in her native Iran, Farah completed high school as an exchange student in Orlando, Florida. She subsequently completed her studies at RCD college of Economics in Tehran following which she was offered a position with Irano Scandinavian shipping Co., operating out of that city. In 1985, during the conflict between Iran and Iraq, Farah relocated with her family to the United States and ultimately gained her citizenship.
Upon returning to the United States Farah joined a fledgling wholesale diamond company that would ultimately be her professional home for 25 years. Reporting directly to the owner, and generally operating without supervision, Farah was largely responsible for developing this previously little heard of company into a thriving and well recognized force in the extremely closely knit diamond trading community based out of New York. This company continues to operate extremely successful today.
In 2005, ready for a new challenge, Farah partnered with John Dickinson at DBD. Her expertise in diamond grading, vast dealer network and comprehensive understanding of this side of the industry have proved to be invaluable assets that have contributed immeasurably to our continued expansion.
